Aug. 6 – 7: The Oceanside Yacht Club (1950 Harbor Drive North) is hosting the 14th annual Charity Regatta to benefit the Elizabeth Hospice. The entry fee to race in the two-day regatta is $50, and daily post-race parties are open to the public free of charge beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The two-day event commences with sailboat races starting at noon each day. Food and drink are available for purchase both days starting at 4 p.m., along with a silent auction and raffle. The grand prize raffle drawing includes a seven-day Holland America cruise for two to the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada/New England or Alaska. The cruise drawing is $20 per ticket. The public can join the fun on the water and board a luxury powerboat for a donation of $100 per person to the Elizabeth Hospice.
Aug. 7: Carlsbad’s Museum of Making Music starts a quarterly music event series at 11 a.m. with an acoustic brunch, featuring live music, coffee, mimosas and Belgian waffles by Marcel Waffles food truck. The event features live performances by Cassie B., Jesse Daniel Edwards and The Bad Carls. Tickets are $10; children under 10 are admitted free. Members get a 10 percent discount.
Aug. 11: The North County Health & Wellness Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Oceanside Civic Center Plaza (300 North Coast Highway). Presented by the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce and Tri-City Medical Center, the fair is also sponsored by Kaiser Permanente and Allie’s Party Rentals. This event features more than 60 health-related businesses that will promote their products and services. The event also features free health-related screenings and demonstrations. Aug. 13: The A Walk on Water surf charity event, benefiting special needs kids, takes place at North Oceanside Harbor from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Walk on Water is a family of watermen sharing the therapeutic powers of the ocean, with the primary goal of providing relief to families of children with special needs through surf therapy. Aug. 13: Cardiff-by-the-Sea offers its annual one-day street fair for dogs and dog lovers from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Newcastle Avenue, Aberdeen Drive and Liverpool Drive. The event is hosted by Cardiff 101 Main Street and is expected to draw 10,000 four-legged friends, their fans and family members. Beginning at 10 a.m., watch or enter in four different dog contests, including Cutest Puppy, Dog/Owner Look-A-Like, Best Looking Big Dog and Best Looking Small Dog. Aug. 14: The Carlsbad Village Association’s 18th annual Art in the Village event will return, bringing more than 100 local and regional fine artists for a one-day, open-air, juried art show. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. along State Street and Grand Avenue in the Village, just blocks from Carlsbad State Beach. The event features oil painting, watercolor, photography, mixed media, new media and classical and contemporary sculpture, as well as artisans who work in the mediums of jewelry, woodworking, furniture, pottery, hand-painted clothing and accessories.
