May 15: The 10th Annual EcoFest Encinitas celebrating Earth-friendly products and activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Coastal Roots Farm at 450 Quail Gardens Drive. Admission is free, and offers a day-long celebration of live music, organic eats, craft beer, interactive family activities, and artistic initiatives and products. May 15: The San Diego Botanic Garden presents the class Journaling in the Garden with Pens & Watercolor from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Learn from instructor Helen Shafer Garcia how to paint watercolor as you compose prose and art in personal journals. May 15: The Arts Alive Encinitas Live Auction will take place at Cardiff Town Center, 2087 San Elijo. The event will auction 93 art banners, painted by local artists and exhibited on the Coast Hwy since February. The banners will be on display all day for viewing and silent bidding. May 15: The San Luis Rey Chorale and the North Coast Symphony Orchestra will present a joint concert, A Touch of Americana, featuring music by American composers. The concert will be held at 4 p.m. at Lighthouse Christian Church, 4700 Mesa Drive, Oceanside.  Admission is free, but there will be a goodwill offering. May 19: The 2016 season of Encinitas Classic Car Cruise nights opens in downtown Encinitas at the Encinitas Smog Center at intersection of 101 and F Street. Hundreds of vintage cars and trucks of all types from all over San Diego will be parked and cruising 101 from late afternoon until 8 p.m. The season will include celebrations of VW buses, Cobras, vintage motorcycles, Wavecrest woodies and activities such as “Heels and Wheels.” For more information on event or sponsorship, visit or call 760-943-1950.

May 20: The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce’s second annual Glamour, Glitz, Hats & Heels afternoon tea and business social, is taking place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa at 5480 Grand Pacific Drive. The event brings like-minded businesswomen and professionals together for an afternoon of relationship building and will also feature a fashion show. General admission is $80. Admission for Chamber members is $55. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Pregnancy Resource Center in Vista. May 21: The San Dieguito Heritage Museum at 450 Quail Gardens Drive in Encinitas is putting on its 28th annual Deep Pit Barbeque from noon to 3 p.m. The event features local microbreweries and music by Willie Nelson tribute band Two of Us Plus One. May 21: The 3rd Annual Tails on the Trails event takes place at Mance Buchanon Municipal Park, 425 College Blvd. in Oceanside from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s an opportunity for dog owners to stay healthy and active by spending a day walking their dogs in the park. There will be vendor booths, pet information booths, K9 demonstrations, pet adoptions, prize drawings and music. Proceeds benefit Tri-City Hospital Auxiliary, Tri-City Medical Center’s Pet Therapy Program, Tri-City Hospital Foundation and the Oceanside Police Department K-9 Unit. Cost is $25. May 22: The San Diego Botanic Garden invites the public to an opening reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the 10th Annual Lung Hsiang Exhibit and Sale, which features original Chinese Brush Paintings created by members of the Lung Hsiang chapter of the American Artists of Chinese Brush Painting. May 28: The San Dieguito High School Academy Community Rummage Sale, sponsored by the San Dieguito Academy Foundation, will take place from 7 a.m. to noon in front of the SDA Performing Arts Center Amphitheater at 800 Santa Fe Drive in Encinitas. Proceeds from the sale will help fund student clubs, teams and extracurricular programs. If you would like to donate gently used items in good working condition, you can drop them off May 27 between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the SDA front parking lot.
