Sept. 10: The city of Carlsbad presents Family Movie Night Under the Stars, with movie-themed games and activities plus a free showing of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at Stagecoach Community Park (3420 Camino de los Coches). The movie will begin at dusk, and families are encouraged to arrive at 5 p.m. to set up and enjoy the activities. The movie is free, and fun zone wristbands will be available for $6. Sept. 14: The Encinitas Library (540 Cornish Drive) hosts a free concert from noon – 12:50 p.m. with Sonya Lee, piano, and Melina Kalomas, soprano. Kalomas starred in Grey Gardens the Musical at the Ahmanson Theater. They will perform two works by Eric Satie and selections from Grey Gardens.

Sept. 22: A San Diego premiere of the documentary “For the Love of Spock” takes place at 7 p.m. at the Carlsbad Village Theatre (2822 State Street). The documentary covers the history of “Star Trek’s” Mr. Spock and the actor who played him, the late Leonard Nimoy. ”For the Love of Spock” is directed by Nimoy’s son Adam, who will appear in a Q&A.
