Carlsbad Village Association aims to improve the community through collaboration and events

The Carlsbad Village Association (CVA) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization whose core purpose is to lead the continual improvement of Carlsbad Village, making it the premier gathering place in North County.

CVA holds events year-round and collaborates with other village groups on their events; manages a website that promotes the village and its merchants; emails a weekly newsletter to more than 2,800 subscribers; enjoys a robust social media presence on Instagram and Facebook; advertises in local publications; works with city staff on issues such as lighting, drainage, revitalization, and economic development; and maintains regular contact with City Council members and city staff on matters relative to the village. To some, the CVA is best known for running its weekly certified Farmers’ Market on State Street.

Village Voices, CVA’s monthly merchant and resident meeting, has been an excellent vehicle to get the word out. In addition to keeping merchants and residents informed of upcoming events, it also employs a city component to its meetings and regularly invites city staff to attend and speak on issues of importance to those who live and work in the village.

This year, as an example, several Carlsbad Police Department officers have been invited to discuss the use of new body cameras and shared their “if you see something, say something” policy encouraging merchants and residents to utilize their non-emergency police dispatch telephone number. Most recently, Police Chief Neil Gallucci, a 26-year veteran of the Carlsbad Police Department, gave his “State of the Village” report and talked about increased police presence in the village during its peak season of Memorial Day through Labor Day.

CVA also produces and manages events throughout the year that are designed to increase the awareness of the Carlsbad Village as a destination for shopping, dining and playing. These include:

— State Street Farmers’ Market (Wednesdays from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. March through October and and 3 p.m.-6 p.m November through February)

—Friday Night Live Busker Music (Fridays from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on the corners of State, Grand, and Carlsbad Village Drive)

—Flicks at the Fountain Outdoor Movies (every Thursday night in July and August at the fountain parking lot)

— Carlsbad Art in the Village Open Air Art Show (second Sunday every August)

— Holiday Window Decorating Contest (Thanksgiving through New Years Day)

— Carlsbad Village Art Walk (Held every 4th Thursday of every month May through October)
