Moonlight Stage Productions in Vista is bringing several hit musicals to North County, from “Sister Act” to “Peter Pan,” starting June 15.
Moonlight Stage Productions is a cultural arts program of the city of Vista and is produced in partnership with the non-profit Moonlight Cultural Foundation. It provides high-caliber productions throughout the year at the 2,000-person capacity Moonlight Amphitheatre at 1200 Vale Terrace Drive.
June 15-July 2 the stage will feature the San Diego regional premiere of “Sister Act,” the hit musical based on the Whoopi Goldberg film.
Tickets are $23 to $55 for all reserved seating, and $8 to $20 for general admission lawn seating.
“’Sister Act’ is the perfect opener for our 36th season,” said Steven Glaudini, producing artistic director, Moonlight Stage Productions. “The show is filled with laugh out loud comedy, fun choreography, and a story that’ll move you. The creators of the musical version wisely decided to give their musical a new setting apart from the film by setting it in 1977 and placing it in Philadelphia. This time period allowed composer Alan Menken to flavor the score with soul, funk and disco with a little nod to Barry White.”
July 20 through Aug. 6 the musical classic “Peter Pan” flies into the theater. Featuring the sets and costumes of the famous Cathy Rigby production, the show will feature spectacular flying effects.
Next up is “Titanic: The Musical” from Aug. 17 – Sept. 3, Maury Yeston’s musical based on the nautical disaster (and not the movie). It won five Tony Awards including Best Musical.
That’s followed Sept. 14 – Oct. 1 by “The Addams Family,” created by the authors of “The Jersey Boys” and the composer and lyricist of “Big Fish.” Join Gomez and Morticia Addams for a morbid family gathering when daughter Wednesday brings home her “normal” boyfriend and his uptight parents.
New options in seating for the 2016 season include reserved lawn seating, allowing patrons to reserve a spot on the lawn and offering the convenience of not having to line-up at the gate hours before each show to get the best lawn seats; fringe seats, offering discounted prices on the outer edges of each row of reserved seats; and deeply discounted general admission lawn seating (from $8 to $20) on the hillside area at the rear of the Amphitheatre with its own set of speaker towers.
Lawn chairs are provided onsite. Gates open for picnicking and dining 90 minutes before curtain. Non-alcoholic beverages and food may be brought into the Amphitheatre. The Moonlight’s restaurant, the Artisan Café, also offers pre-show dining outdoors on the Moonlight Patio. The Café also offers intermission snacks. Parking is free.
