7 p.m. on Saturday, May 7: Sean Watkins at the Museum of Making Music, Carlsbad. $20 for general seating/$25 for premium seating.
Singer-songwriter Sean Watkins is best known for his work in the Americana/country band Nickel Creek and for performing as the Watkins Family Hour ensemble with his sister Sara. But on this night Watkins will perform as a solo artist playing gentle acoustic folk. Singer-songwriter Sonya Kitchell will open the show. MuseumOfMakingMusic.org.
9 p.m. on Friday, May 13: Shady Francos, Swap Meat and The Tightwads at Pour House, Oceanside. Free
Sounding somewhere between The Hives and Green Day, Shady Francos will undoubtedly get folks on their feet. In the same musical vein but with a darker edge is Swap Meat, featuring members of Trouble in the Wind. The mystery factor for the night is The Tightwads as this will be the debut show of the band featuring members of Shake Before Us, No Knife and The Heartaches. PourHouseOceanside.com
9 p.m. on Saturday, May 21: Frightened Rabbit and Caveman at Belly Up, Solana Beach. $25
Scottish indie rockers Frightened Rabbit will hit Solana Beach amidst their U.S./U.K. tour in support of their newest album “Painting of a Panic Attack.” Singer Scott Hutchison’s voice aptly portrays a range of emotions from agony to anxiety. Out-of-the-woods pick of the month
