Vigilucci’s Beach Bocce Ball Championship, produced by the North County Athletic Association, attracted more than 1,000 people to Del Mar’s Dog Beach on July 9 and raised more than $100,000 for charity, according to organizers.
Beneficiaries included the Boys and Girls Clubs of Carlsbad, as well as the Friends of the Powerhouse and Beach.
“Even though competition is stiff, laughter is abundant,” said John Manson, tournament co-founder. “The event has become multi-generational and wildly popular. We attract a great crowd that always has a great time.”
A sold-out crowd of 411 teams played 999 games on 81 courts, organizers reported.
The tournament has raised more than $1 million since its inception. Plans are already underway for the July 2017 competition, organizers reported. For more information on the tournament visit www.beachbocce.com or call 760-444-4893.
