The men in brown who keep Encintas safe have a new downtown storefront office.

By Amanda Banion

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department now has an office presence in downtown Encinitas, the city manager reported June 21.

The department, which provides law enforcement protection in Encinitas under a contract with the city, has opened a storefront location at the corner of D Street and Second Street.

The office will not be staffed on a regular basis, but it gives deputies a location to complete paperwork in close proximity to downtown.

There are also plans for the Crime Prevention Unit and the COPPS Unit to conduct community events in the area, such as neighborhood watch.

There will be a grand opening in the near future.
