Local Jourdyn M. Aiken will represent Encinitas in the upcoming Miss California USA pageant held Dec. 2-4 in Long Beach, according to a press release from pageant producer Top 10 Productions.
The winner of the pageant will go on to compete at the national MISS USA competition, which is televised live on FOX.
Aiken was born and raised Encinitas. She attended St. James Academy, Cathedral Catholic High School and San Dieguito Academy. In high school, she was an honor student and ASB officer and participated in club soccer and volleyball, in addition to running on the high school varsity track team and playing varsity volleyball. She attended the University of Montana and completed a semester abroad in Barcelona, Spain. She earned a B.A. in organizational communication and a certificate in entertainment management and is an alumna of the Delta Gamma sorority.
Following graduation, Aiken completed an internship in Barcelona, working for a local nonprofit organization, assisting with a European Paralympic-qualifying event that included 23 participating European countries. Aiken now works at the Encinitas Ecke YMCA as a program coordinator and volleyball coach. She has received the Encinitas Ecke YMCA Employee of the Month award on two occasions. In addition to her YMCA employment, Aiken was employed as an Ambassador to the San Diego County Fair, twice earning the Friend of the Fair Award. Aiken’s career ambition is to work as a sports commentator or as an event coordinator for national and/or international sporting events, according to the release.
The pageant will be held at the Terrace Theater with the Westin Long Beach as the host hotel. The pageant will put on three shows (two preliminary competitions and one finals competition) that will be ticketed events open to the public. Tickets for the shows are available on Ticketmaster.com.
