Veteran Oceanside firefighter Richard Robinson was selected to lead the city’s fire department following a nationwide search, officials announced Monday.
Robinson, who has more than three decades of emergency-services experience, has served as interim chief since June. He will be sworn in as head of the agency at a Nov. 16 city council meeting.
The longtime Oceanside resident will oversee a 90-year-old department with 126 employees.
“I am thrilled to be able to serve the community where I have lived for 28-plus years,” he said. “It’s an honor and privilege to serve this diverse and vibrant community.”
Robinson previously was fire chief for the cities of Dana Point, Mission Viejo, San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano under the Orange County Fire Authority structure.
A graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program, Robinson holds a bachelor of arts degree in technical education and a master’s degree in organizational management. His annual salary will be $191,000.
