A Carlsbad man who was wanted on two felony warrants was arrested on suspicion of attempted carjacking, false imprisonment and burglary after what began as a traffic stop by Oceanside Police, authorities said.
Michael Ruben Mejia, 21, was a passenger in a car that was pulled over for a vehicle code violation by Oceanside Police in the 200 block of Barnes Street at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Sgt. Ryan Davis.
Mejia fled from the vehicle, unsuccessfully attempted to gain entry into a home in the 1700 block of Dixie St., then got into the passenger seat of a passing vehicle and attempted to steal it, Davis said.
After the driver refused to comply with Mejia, he got out of the vehicle and fled into a yard of another home in the 1700 block of Dixie St. and entered the house, which was occupied by a 22-year-old man. Police Officers were alerted that Mejia was hiding inside the house, according to Davis.
After Mejia refused to comply with officers’ orders, a police dog was deployed and helped take Mejia into custody.
Mejia was named in two active felony arrest warrants. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of burglary, attempted carjacking and false imprisonment.
